Sparta Man Accused of Raping Teen, Pretending He Was a Baby

He was accused of dressing the victim in a diaper and giving him a pacifier to suck.

Tyler Ryan Lowis, a 22-year-old Sparta man, has been bound over for trial on allegations that he repeatedly sexually assaulted two teenage brothers. At a recent hearing in the 63rd District Court in Kent County, Lowis waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was therefore scheduled for a hearing in Kent County Circuit Court. He is currently facing nine felony counts, and if convicted, is facing life in prison.

According to court records, Lowis called himself “daddy” during the assaults, and referred to his alleged victims as “baby boy.” In addition, the prosecutor alleges that Lowis sometimes had the teen wear a diaper while they were together, and drink from a sippy cup or baby bottle. It is also alleged that Lowis gave him a baby pacifier to muffle his screams during the assaults.

Court records also reveal that the initial investigation into this situation began with the Michigan State Police receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip was about an individual who was apparently amassing a collection of child pornography on a Dropbox account.

MSP began an investigation, which led them to Lowis. According to Michigan State Police investigators, Lowis had a large collection of child pornography that included sexually explicit images of boys, including toddlers and infants in his collection. Officers got a search warrant for the kiddie porn and arrived at Lowis’ home, located in mobile home community, where he lives with his wife.

Lowis was home when officers arrived, as was his wife.

They talked to him and he admitted to the investigators that he owned child pornography. In addition, he also allegedly admitted that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted a boy that he had known since the child was 10 years old. The assaults are said to have happened to in the late summer.

When officers sat down with the alleged victim and his parents to discuss Lowis’ admissions, the boy admitted that he had engaged in sexual activity ” a crap ton” of times. The assaults were said to have taken place at Lowis’ home, as well as in numerous other locations in Michigan. In addition, Lowis allegedly recorded some of the assaults on a tablet which he kept on his nightstand.

Police say that a total of three sexual assaults involving the victim had been recorded on Lowis’ tablet. In addition, there were allegedly numerous photographs of the victim wearing nothing other than a diaper, and with a pacifier in his mouth.

Lowis has been charged with multiple counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material (kiddie porn), and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. All three of these charges are felonies that are punishable under Michigan law by decades, if not life, in prison.

Currently Lowis is being held in the Kent County Jail on a $250,000 bond. No information is available on whether or not he has hired an attorney yet, or if he intends to have the public defender’s office provide one for him. We hope for his sake that he chooses to forgo the court appointed attorney and hire his own skilled CSC defense attorney instead.
